How to Set Recurring WhatsApp Group Reminders

Quick answer

To set a recurring WhatsApp reminder, send CREATE RECURRING REMINDER to Groupie privately. Choose the group or SELF, the first date and time, timezone and message. Select DAILY, WEEKLY or MONTHLY, add an optional count or end date, then review and approve the series. A paid workspace plan is required.

A weekly rehearsal, a monthly meeting or a daily check-in should not depend on an organizer remembering to send the same message. With Groupie, you can prepare a recurring WhatsApp reminder privately, review its recipient and schedule, and approve the series before it starts.

What you need

Recurring reminders require Pro, Community or Organization. Check the current plans for your workspace’s included features. For a group reminder, add Groupie to a WhatsApp group you administer, register in your private chat, and send REFRESH GROUPS so you can choose the group.

Groupie can also send a reminder to your own private WhatsApp chat. Choose SELF instead of a group when prompted. A recurring reminder repeats its approved message; an announcement with different content each week should be prepared and scheduled separately.

How to create a recurring WhatsApp reminder

  1. Start the recurring reminder flow

Send CREATE RECURRING REMINDER in your private chat with Groupie. Finish or cancel any existing guided task first so you can review one task at a time.

  2. Choose the recipient and title

Select your group by button, name or number, or reply SELF for a private reminder. Give it a recognizable title such as “Friday rehearsal reminder.”

  3. Set the first date, time and timezone

Choose the timezone and a future first occurrence. For a Friday rehearsal reminder, choose the first Friday on which the reminder should go out and enter a time such as 5 pm. Review the timezone rather than assuming everyone uses your phone’s local time.

  4. Write a message that works every time

Use wording that stays accurate when repeated. “Rehearsal starts at 7 pm today in the main hall” can work for a regular Friday reminder. A date-specific caption copied from an old poster can become misleading next week.

  5. Choose the repeat rule

At the repeat prompt, reply DAILY, WEEKLY or MONTHLY. Add a total count, such as WEEKLY 8, or an inclusive end date, such as WEEKLY until 2027-01-31. Without a count or end date, the series continues until cancelled.

  6. Review and approve the series

Check the group, message, first send time, timezone and repeat setting in the preview. Use the edit options before tapping Approve. Approval authorizes the recurring series, so you do not need to approve the unchanged message again every week.

Choose a repeat pattern that fits the task

  • DAILY: repeat at the same local time each day.
  • WEEKLY 8: schedule eight total occurrences, including the first one, on the weekday you chose for the first send.
  • MONTHLY 6: schedule six total occurrences on the selected calendar date, with month-end adjustments.
  • WEEKLY until 2027-01-31: repeat weekly through that date, inclusive, when a scheduled occurrence falls on it.
  • ONCE: make it a one-time reminder instead of a recurring series.

The guided monthly option follows a calendar date. For example, starting on the 10th repeats on the 10th. For a “first Friday of every month” requirement, create individually dated reminders rather than treating MONTHLY as a weekday rule.

Recipient: Choir team

First send: Friday, October 23, 2026, at 5 pm Pacific Time

Repeat: WEEKLY 8

Message: Rehearsal starts at 7 pm today in the main hall. Please bring your music folder.

Groupie keeps the scheduled local time as daylight saving changes. A local time that does not exist during a clock change is skipped; if a time occurs twice, the earlier occurrence is used. Monthly dates beyond the end of a month use that month’s last day. Missed occurrences are not replayed in a burst.

Check, change or stop a recurring series

Send REMINDERS SCHEDULED to find your scheduled reminders. You can also review reminders in the dashboard. A Scheduled confirmation means the schedule is saved; it does not prove a message has been delivered.

To stop a series, send CANCEL REMINDER followed by its exact title. For example, CANCEL REMINDER Friday rehearsal reminder. Review the cancellation prompt and confirm. If titles are duplicated, list your reminders and select the correct one by number.

To change an approved recurring series, cancel it and create a replacement with the corrected message, recipient or schedule. Review and approve the replacement. Cancelling stops pending work across the series, but cannot recall a send that has already started.

Common questions

Why use Groupie instead of a reminder to message the group myself?

Groupie combines the recipient, message, repeat rule and approval in one workflow. You prepare the reminder once and approve the series, rather than receiving a personal nudge and then composing the group message each time.

Will the message change automatically every week?

The series repeats the approved content. Use separate scheduled announcements for changing notices. Read how to schedule an announcement with a photo.

Does every event need a recurring reminder?

A Groupie event has its own event reminder settings. Use a recurring reminder for a repeated message or routine. If you need attendance responses for a particular gathering, use a Groupie event with RSVPs.

What if a weekly meeting is cancelled?

Stop the recurring series if its message would be wrong, then create a replacement when the schedule is settled. Tell the group about the cancellation separately. Do not assume an unchanged recurring message knows your meeting has moved.
